Koeman continues to rely on Barça veterans such as Pique and Busquets

Despite their poor form, FC Barcelona players Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets remain in the base of the Barça this season, led by Ronald Koeman. The FC Barcelona coach explains that these experienced Barcelona players are also responsible for the chemistry, personality and taking the young players on the field and showing them their way.

“There are leaders, and they are leaders like Pique, Sergi Roberto, Busquets and Messi. There is enough strong personality to take the lead in FC Barcelona. These players have to lead the way and are important to show young players where we are going,” Ronald Koeman told the press.

Recently there was heavy criticism of the FC Barcelona head coach from the media. The press stated that Koeman continues to rely on the experienced players of Barça for far too long and is not innovative enough.

Koeman remains committed to the vision.

At the moment, however, Koeman does not take much notice of all the criticism and simply continues to rely on his experienced players and wants to keep them in the most important games of the season.

In an interview from 2019, Koeman was not yet the coach of FC Barcelona. The trainer spoke differently about drawing up young versus old talent. For example, Koeman said: “We are Dutch, and we are not afraid to place young players and are used to that. I always say, when I can choose from a player of 30 years or another player of 22 years, with exactly the same performance, I will choose the player of 22 years. This is because here in the future, and that is necessary to continue the overall football quality.”

Ronald Koeman will be back in the La Liga competition with his Spanish team tomorrow. On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 7 p.m. FC Barcelona will play against Elche in-house.
