isPermaLink="false">http://www.footballnewsnow.com/?p=18261#comment-7019

[...] Denver has reportedly signed former Tennessee and Seattle defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson. It reportedly cut defensive lineman Le Kevin Smith to bring in Vickerson. Vickerson was a key backup in Tennessee, before signing with Seattle this offseason. He was a surprise cut in Seattle. Vickerson could be an interesting addition to Denver’s front three. He is very big at 6-foot-5, 321 pounds. He may be a factor at nose tackle. Denver wants to keep Jamal Williams fresh and having the massive Vickerson share snaps with him could help Williams and the defense in general. It’s an intriguing move. In other AFC West afternoon news, there are local television blackout scares in the NFL with the possibility of Oakland, San Diego and Kansas City dealing with blackouts this season. Oakland has long struggled with blackouts. There are a lot of tickets available to San Diego’s home opener against Jacksonville on Sept. 19. Cornerback Alphonso Smith, who was traded from Denver to Detroit this weekend, indicated that a fresh start will do him good. Smith clearly felt pressure after Denver traded its first round pick in 2010 to take him at No. 37 in the second round in 2009. Smith was never a factor and the team dumped him this weekend. Here is a taste of what he said after arriving in Detroit. “It’s really good to have a clean slate. I allowed certain individuals back in Denver to form a perception of me, and I paid for it. Hence, the trade. So it’s really good for me and my family to be in a new place and in a new town with new teammates just to try to start it all over again.” Cornerbacks are usually a confident lot. Doesn’t sound like Smith was confident at all in Denver. Feel free to participate in ESPN.com’s SportsNation Week 1 pick ‘em contest. Good luck to all.
