Nick Williams had to prove himself on the practice squad for 10 weeks before he was signed to the Washington Redskins main roster. Now, after a lackluster debut against the Philadelphia Eagles, the rookie wide receiver/punt returner must prove himself all over again this week.
“It looked like he played in his first game,” head coach Mike Shanahan said of Williams’ performance in Philadelphia in which he muffed a couple of punts and misjudged another.
“I’d rather have a guy err on the side of not going after the football or going after the football and turning it over, so we’ll see how he does this week in practice and make a decision again on who is going to be our top 53,” Shanahan added.
Williams’ effort and an injury to Leonard Hankerson may have opened the door for the return of Joshua Morgan who was deactivated for the first time last weekend.
