WASHINGTON (FNN Media) — Adam Gettis became the third of the Washington Redskins nine draft picks and second from Iowa to sign his first NFL contract.
The guard inked the deal Saturday afternoon at Redskins Park in Ashburn.
Gettis was in the midst of the team’s rookie minicamp when the deal was finalized.
“He’s got the quickness we look for, kind of like Kory Lichtensteiger,” head coach Mike Shanahan said recently of Gettis. “You know, he can play center or the guard position. He’s got speed. You can never have enough depth in that offensive line.”
The youngster is hoping to have an easy transition to the Redskins zone blocking scheme. He called himself a “perfect fit” for it, having played in it while in college.
He joins seventh round draft picks Richard Crawford, a cornerback from SMU, and Jordan Bernstine, a safety from Iowa, who signed their contracts on Friday.
