KANSAS CITY, Mo. (FNN Media) – The Kansas City Chiefs hired Steven Smith as the club’s assistant offensive line coach the team announced Friday.
This is Smith’s first full-time coaching job in the NFL. He previously served as the run game coordinator/offensive line coach at Tennessee State in 2011. Prior to that, he spent to seasons each as the the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Albany State and the run game coordinator/offensive line coach at Delta State.
Smith has a host of offseason coaching internship experience in the NFL. He completed internships with the Cleveland Browns in 2011, Miami Dolphins in 2008, Dallas Cowboys from 2003-06 and New Orleans Saints in 2002.
In addition, he coached two season in NFL Europe. Smith was the running backs coach of the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2005 before joining the Rhein Fire as their offensive line coach in 2006.
He played collegiality at Southern Illinois as a fullback where he earned a degree in Pre-Medicine/University Studies. Prior to pursuing a coaching career he spent two yearsin a medical preparation program at Northern Illinois.
