The San Francisco 49ers plan to use their franchise tag on Dashon Goldson.

SAN FRANCISCO (FNN Media) — The San Francisco 49ers plan to use their franchise tag on Dashon Goldson.

The fourth-round 2007 draft choice earned a base salary of $1 million last year.

He’s in line for a big pay raise.  The franchise tag for a safety is worth $6.2 million this year.

Goldson cracked the 49ers starting lineup in 2009 and hasn’t relinquished that role since.

Despite missing the first two games due to a knee injury, he recorded a career-high six interceptions and was voted into the Pro Bowl for the first time last season.
