The Washington Redskins deactivated Rex Grossman for Sunday’s season opener against the New Orleans Saints.

Should something happen to Robert Griffin III fellow rookie Kirk Cousins will take over.

Cousins looked impressed at times during the preseason and has apparently done enough in practice to have lead coaches to make this decision.

Grossman was listed ahead of Cousins on the depth chart released by the team earlier this week.

The full list of Redskins inactives includes: wide receiver Dez Briscoe, cornerback Crezdon Butler, safety Brandon Meriweather, guards Josh LeRibeus and Adam Gettis and nose tackle Chris Baker.

The Saints declared the following players inactive: running back Chris Ivory, defensive back Jabari Greer and defensive tackles Tyrunn Walker and Akiem Hicks.
