The Oakland Raiders signed veteran defensive end Andre Carter on Wednesday.
Carter is coming off a Pro Bowl season with the New England Patriots that was cut short by a knee injury. The prolific pass rusher recorded 10 sacks and 22 hurries before being placed on injured reserve on Dec. 20.
His four sacks against the New York Jets on Nov. 13 tied a Patriots record.
Carter has notched 10 or more sacks in a season four times during his career. He ranks eighth among active players in total sacks.
The 33-year-old is best suited for a 4-3 defensive scheme and was released by the Washington Redskins following 2010 season. Although productive, he was not a good fit for Jim Haslett’s 3-4 defense.
