The Miami Dolphins have signed wide receiver Chad Ochocinco the team announced on Monday.
The 6-1, 192-pound Ochocinco spent last season with the New England Patriots. He was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round (36th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. In his career, Ochocinco has played in 166 career games with 135 starts. He has notched 766 receptions for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns. Ochocinco has been selected to the Pro Bowl six times and been named an All-Pro three times.
Ochocinco played collegiately at Oregon State University. In 2000, he averaged 21.8 yards per catch, helping the Beavers to a No. 4 national ranking and a Fiesta Bowl win over Notre Dame. Ochocinco played in 1997 and 1999 at Santa Monica (CA) College. In 20 games at Santa Monica, he caught 120 passes for 2,100 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also attended Langston University (Okla.) in 1996 but did not play football. Born January 9, 1978 in Miami Florida, Ochocinco attended Miami Beach High School.
The Dolphins also signed fullback Ryan Mahaffey and waived wide receiver Derek Moye on Tuesday.
The 6-2, 255-pound Mahaffey joins the Dolphins after spending time during the 2011 season with the Indianapolis Colts. Mahaffey joined the Colts after being signed off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad on November 16, 2011. He competed in five contests and caught one pass for 5 yards. Mahaffey played collegiately at Northern Iowa where he appeared in 51 games with 43 coming in a starting role.
A versatile player, he saw action at both tight end and fullback and recorded 28 receptions for 251 yards and 6 touchdowns. Born November 28, 1987, Mahaffey Attended Grinnell High School in Grinnell, Iowa, where he was named first-team All-State by the Des Moines Register and third-team All-State by the Iowa Newspaper Association.
