Dolphins Trade Vontae Davis Colts For Pair Of Picks

The Indianapolis Colts acquired cornerback Vontae Davis from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a pair of draft picks.

After team owner Jim Irsay said trade winds were blowing, the Indianapolis Colts acquired cornerback Vontae Davis from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a second-round pick and a conditional late-round pick in 2013.

Davis had been featured on HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ as a player who’s coverage skills were improving over the course of training camp.

“We appreciate all the contributions Vontae has made to the Dolphins since we drafted him in 2009 and we want to wish him the best of success in Indianapolis,” Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland said in comments distributed by the team.

His acquisition should immediately help improve Indianapolis’ struggling secondary and breathe new life into Davis’ career.

He is expected to start opposite veteran Jerraud Powers.

Davis, 24, has played in 44 career games with 148 tackles and nine interceptions since being selected by Miami with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

He is under contract through 2013.
