Shortly after acquiring Vontae Davis, the Indianapolis Colts announced the release of 11 players Sunday evening.

The releases include four cornerbacks, a position badly in need of upgrading. Davis is expected to be a starter, but last year’s sixth-round pick Chris Rucker also had a chance for the job. Now he’s looking a new one.

The Colts released the following players: Cornerbacks Cameron Chism, Antonio Fenelus, Terrence Johnson and Chris Rucker, safeties Matt Merletti and David Caldwell, linebacker Mike Balogun, wide receiver Quan Cosby, running back Alvester Alexander, guard Jason Foster and punter Brian Stahovich.

With the releases, the Colts have 80 players on their roster. Five additional cuts must be made prior to 4 p.m. EST Monday when all NFL rosters must be at trimmed to 75 players.
