To help raise awareness of melanoma, the Baltimore Ravens will host free skin cancer screenings before the September 27th night game against the Cleveland Browns.
Melanoma has hit particularly close to home for the Ravens. Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron was diagnosed with melanoma earlier in his life. But luckily, he was screened and caught it early. As part of the initiative, Cameron has also developed a public service announcement that will air on Ravens’ television networks and will be available to view online later this week.
The national awareness campaign Melanoma Exposed is designed to educate Americans about melanoma and its risk factors, and to encourage people to take a more active role in their skin health.
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer–it kills one American every hour and men are twice as likely as women to die from the disease. Yet, according to a new survey, only 9% of men report melanoma as a concern. To date, the campaign has screened more than 1,500 individuals at professional football stadiums across the country.
