Fan violence will make the annual Battle of Bay a thing of the past.

The NFL will no longer schedule the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers each preseason following last Saturday’s double shooting and fights at Candlestick Park according to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury-News.

The two teams can still meet during the regular season, but the exhibitions are over for now.

A source told Kawakami there is now way the two will square off next preseason and perhaps longer than that.

There is a chance the Raiders and 49ers could hold a closed scrimmage in place of the game.

Both the league and local police are strongly in support of the decision.

An official announcement is not expected.
