Beginning in 2004, the NFL has started each regular season on a Thursday night at the home stadium of the previous year’s Super Bowl champions. With the NFL owners meeting this week in New Orleans, speculation had begun as to whom the Packers would face to begin their title defense.
The NFL is holding off on announcing the schedule for the opening weekend games, and a league source reported that planning for the opening game of the season, including the festivities and concerts that usually surround it, have not even begun. Speculated opponents include the Minnesota Vikings and the 2009 Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, but the most likely opponent seems to be the Chicago Bears in a rematch of the 2010 NFC Championship Game.
