SI.com’s Peter King thinks Matt Hasselbeck won’t be back in Seattle, and tweeted about it early Wednesday morning.
Later in the day, King joined Brock and Salk on 710ESPN Seattle, and made a verbal declaration to back up his virtual words.
“I think that the Seahawks are gonna move in a different direction…I think Matt is gonna move in a different direction,” said King. “The fact is they made him an offer before they had to stop talking to their own players, and he turned it down. I just have thought ever since then, that he’s probably going to go in a different direction.”
Later in the interview, Brock Huard let it be known to King that Hasselbeck wanted a two-year deal, similar to what Kerry Collins and Jake Delhomme got from their respective teams, and Seattle said “No,” and came back with a one-year offer of their own, to which he declined.
A little off topic, but still relevant to the discussion, is another tidbit King said in the interview. He was asked if football is going to return soon, to which he replied:
“I give the over/under of July 4th.”
King said there are two good signs that progress is being made in resolving the lockout situation: 1.) The fact that meetings are being held, and 2.) No one is saying anything.
There’s a whole league and a legion of fans worldwide that hope King is right with that prediction.
