Washington Redskins kicker Graham Gano left Wednesday’s practice early after receiving word he may become a father in a few hours.
Gano’s wife phoned the Redskins training staff to inform them she was en route to the hospital. When the kicker was told of the news he sprinted off the field and left the facility.
Gano and his wife learned of their pregnancy around the Dallas Cowboys contest in Week 15 last season.
Punter Sav Rocca substituted for Gano on kickoffs and field goals Wednesday. The Australian nailed a field his only field goal attempt.
If Gano is unable to make the trip to Indianapolis Mike Shanahan’s backup plan is a simple one.
“Substitute kicker,” he said. “We’d probably pick somebody up later on today if that’s the case.”
Gano won the Redskins kicking competition this week after the team released Shayne Graham over the weekend.
