Former Washington Redskins lineman Clint Oldenburg has a new home with Virginia Destroyers of the UFL.
Oldenburg is joining a team led by former Redskins head coach Marty Schottenheimer.
The transitioned tight end from Colorado State was a originally a fifth-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 2007.
Oldenburg bounced around the NFL and had stints with the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams, Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings before signing to the Redskins practice squad on Nov. 2, 2009.
He spent last season on injured reserve and was among the team’s final cuts as the Redskins trimmed their roster to 53-players prior to the start of the regular season.
The Destroyers, who are in their first season in the UFL, opened the year with a 23-13 victory over the Omaha Nighthawks.
The Destroyers will open their home schedule on Saturday against the Las Vegas Locomotives.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
The UFL season runs through mid-November at which point players hope to catch on with an NFL team for the remainder of the year.
