Optimism is running rampant the NFL lockout will soon draw to a close. The same cannot be said about Nnamdi Asomugha returning to the Oakland Raiders.

One well respected beat writer poured a big bucket of cold water on Asomugha’s chances of returning to the Silver and Black next season.

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune believes the odds of Asomugha re-signing with the Raiders are not good.

McDonald surmised what many already had–when the team opted not to back up the truck for Asomugha as they did for other players including Richard Seymour and Stanford Routt, they sent a message the Pro Bowl cornerback’s time had drawn to a close.

On Thursday’s broadcast of The Morning Spin I examined Asomugha’s likely options once the lockout is lifted. It’s a worthwhile broadcast that I hope you check out. Also be sure to check out The JRich Report with former Raider Jay Richardson. We had on Mike Mitchell this week. Mitchell had a special message for Al Davis.

Back to Asomugha . . . There have been repeated rumblings the Houston Texans will make a strong play to acquire him when the time comes. Also in play are the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins among others. The Dallas Cowboys appear to be out of the running.
