Wisconsin defensive end O’Brien Schofield tore his ACL during Monday practices for the Senior Bowl. That is officially the worst possible scenario for a player whose only goal at the event is to open eyes of NFL scouts.
“I was in tears,” Schofield told Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Sentinel. “I just couldn’t believe it.”
Making the situation even worse for the player was the fact that he had been making waves among pro teams.
“He did a really nice job last week [at the East-West Shrines Game] and opened eyes,” John Dorsey of the Green Bay Packers said of Schofield. “A good player.”
Prior to suffering the injury he was projected to be taken in the second or third round. Now, he’s looking at rounds four through six, if not further.
Still, he’s trying to stay upbeat about it.
“I truly believe that somewhere some good is going to come out of this,” Schofield said.
