Gregg Williams will continue to push the New Orleans defense this year
Gregg Williams was a huge factor in the success of the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl run last season.
Williams, one of the most well-respected defensive coordinators in the league, was so well regarded by the Saints that Coach Sean Payton took a pay cut to bring him into the organization.
The move paid immediate dividends, culminating with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Williams isn’t about to make any apologies to other teams about the aggressive nature of his defense. That has always been his calling card as a coordinator.
“The goal of every defense is to be respected,” Williams said after practice Wednesday. “And they’re respected when they’re feared.”
Williams was making a statement amid recent comments by the Minnesota Vikings players that the Saints played dirty in the NFC Championship game last season.
“We’re not going to apologize for how hard our guys play,” Williams said. “I’m not going to apologize for trying to lay the wood on everybody. The greatest defenses all had an intimidating factor about them.”
