Darrell Green in the throwback
The Washington Redskins will be making some changes to their uniforms, but the color black will not be included. Instead, it looks like the team will turn to a color scheme similar to their 70th anniversary uniforms from a few years ago.
Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen talked about the changes recently on a episode of Redskins Nation.
“I’m very proud of the Redskins uniform, and I’m very proud of our helmet,” Allen said.
He and new coach Michael Shanahan been talking over the change while prepping for their game plan for next season.
“I’m talking to Coach Shanahan about some ideas that we have of utilizing our colors that we’re very proud of. But other than that, we’re gonna stick to our historic base. I loved when the Redskins had those throwback games over the last few years, whether it’s the arrow or the feather or the R. Y’know, just watching it on tape from afar, you’re like, Oh, gosh, I remember…”
i like those uniforms the cowboys still hadn’t wore the rarely worn road blue uniforms yet they need to wear it aginast the redskins so the redskins can wear the white jerseys and white pants.
The yellow throwback uniform with the “R” on the helmet is from the years that Vince Lombardi coached the Redskins. The “R” is like the “G” on the helmet of the Green Bay Packers, and all that yellow also has a Green Bay theme. Taking nothing away from Lombardi, we don’t need a “Packers wanna be” uniform in Washington as the Redskins primary uniform. The 70th Anniversary uniform (or slight variations of that theme) is by far the best permanent uniform for the Redskins.
I liked the throwbacks they wore a few years ago. The yellow helmet with the R and feather with the yellow pants. They were sharp.
I loved the Redskins 70th anniversary uniform. I don’t know why they didn’t make it their permanent uniform after unveiling it. The current uniform has a TIRED late 1970s-early 1980s look to it. It’s neither retro or modern. Remember the 1st year that Gibbs (during his second stent) took the skins to the playoffs and they played in the “white” uniform; it had to be one of the ugliest football uniforms of all time. Taking nothing away from Gibbs, I’ll be really glad to see that TIRED (80s something) uniform go.
what has the logo become a face for recently? It is true that it has been the logo for 3 super bowl titles…but it is time for a change and I back the logo and uni that has the spear pointed forward towards the future success and the bold colors based on burgundy and gold…I would definitely buy my Bradford or Cooley ’64-’69 update uniform and I do see a lot of them at Fed Ex on gamedays…the one that I own unfortunately has the name of a former Skin on it. The NY/NJ teams have gone back to their older styles and it looks good when updated. Anyways, not insane…just time to put the indian head nickel logo into the attic for a decade or so and try something old/new…thanks for playing our game…lovely parting gifts backstage….LOL
As I recall…that arrow theme produced more losses than wins. Why would we change the logo that has is know for wins in 3 Super Bowls?
The Redskins uniforms and current logo need to stay the same. Are you people insane???
I’m not sure the title of the article matches the content of the article. Sounds like they’re just throwing some ideas around at this point, but the title suggests that changes have been made official.
I loved the yellow uniforms with the R on the helmet, bring those back!
Very glad to see these unis trotted out again. They look sharp and stand out. Image change and attitude change are 2 things this team could use as a great jumping off point…worked with the patriots and the bucs…then we should move on to the draft and the FA market and build a winner…BTW…if healthy go with Bradford if he is not or if he is gone at 4…go OL or trade down for more picks. not sayin’ just sayin’
