The Washington Redskins fired head coach Jim Zorn early Monday morning after a two-year 12-20 stint with the club. The team confirmed the firing Monday morning around 7:45 a.m.

“The status quo is not acceptable,” Redskins G.M. Bruce Allen said in a statement. “I felt it was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building this team into a winner.”

Allen and team owner Daniel Snyder met with Zorn at 4 a.m. Monday morning at Redskins Park.

The coach was then seen leaving the facility at 4:45 a.m. with a security escort according to the Washington Post.

He did not comment.

Zorn’s 4-12 record this season was the worst in 15 years for the once proud DC football team.

The team has announced a 12:30 p.m. press conference to discuss the decision and fill in gaps as to where the franchise is heading.

Also scheduled is a 11:30 a.m. team meeting where the players will be “debriefed” about the Zorn situation and the future of the team.

All eyes now turn to Mike Shanahan who has long been rumored to take over as head coach. It has been reported that there is a contract waiting for him to sign that would make him the highest paid coach in NFL history.

As for Zorn, there have already been rumors of him joining Mike Holmgren in Cleveland in a coordinator or quarterbacks coach capacity.
