Drew Brees
The first half between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints was everything it was billed to be with the exception of an extraordinary amount of points.
The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints are tied at 14 after the first two quarters of football with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line against the Indianapolis Colts.
The defenses for each team took until the second quarter to figure out the opposing offenses. It looked at one point as if we wouldn’t see a punt. As it turned out there would be seven.
A muffed punt by Reggie Bush deep in Saints territory with under two minutes remaining gave the Vikings an opportunity to take the lead. However, just two plays later Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson couldn’t connect on a handoff attempt, giving the Saints the ball right back.
The Ageless wonder Favre completed 15 of 26 passing attempts for 127 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
Peterson continued to be a valuable commodity (other than his fumble) for the Vikings offense, racking up 49 yards on 11 carries. He also scored the game’s first touchdown on a 19-yard scamper.
Percy Harvin, who was questionable to play in the game at one point because of migraine headaches had four catches for 33 yards.
For the hometown Saints, Drew Brees was 10-of-16 passing for 133 yards, two touchdowns and also went without throwing an interception.
He’s been spreading the ball around evenly as eight different Saints receivers had a reception.
Running back Pierre Thomas is the team’s leading rusher and receiver. He carried four times for 23 yards and also caught one pass for 28 yards.
