Torry Holt was released from the Patriots on Wednesday after the two sides reached an injury settlement.

The injury settlement will allow Holt to sign with another team once he is healthy again,  a report from the Boston Herald said. There is speculation that the 12-year vet may sign a one-day contract with the St. Louis Rams, the team he played with for the majority of his career, so he can retire with the organization.

Before the injury, the receiver was adamant he could still perform at a high-level, telling Pats blogger Ian Rapoport he “still had enough game speed”.  Holt will undergo knee surgery this week, but according to Bill Belichick, he will not rehab with the Patriots.

Holt was drafted 6th overall by the Rams in 1999, helping the team win Super Bowl XXXIV in his rookie season. The 7-time Pro Bowler is in the Top 10 for career receiving yards (13,382) and has recorded the most consecutive seasons with 1,3000+ receiving yards (6).
