The Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was benched during the Titans 27-24 win over the New Orleans Saints. The former first round draft pick led the Titans in receiving yards last season, but on Thursday he struggled to get any receptions.
Britt dropped a pass early in the game and again the second quarter. A few minutes after the second dropped pass he was called for a false start. Titans head coach Jeff Fisher then decided that he had had enough.
“It’s best for the team. [Coach Fisher] didn’t see me focusing out there, so I am just hurting the team. Why would you have somebody out there that is not focusing, dropping balls, hurting the team with senseless penalties?” Britt said. “Why would I blame him? It is all me. There is no one to blame but me out there.”
Fisher seems confident that Britt’s performance will improve.
“There were a couple of focus issues there and it was time to look at young players,” Fisher said. “I don’t think it is anything he can’t correct by 10 o’clock tonight. He had some concentration issues, and we discussed it. He’ll be fine.”
