It pays to be a quarterback in the National Football League.

Peyton Manning is poised to become the highest-paid player in the game. Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints won’t be far behind.

And now, the Houston Texans are set to give Matt Schaub a $10 million offseason option bonus according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The team could pick up the option as soon as Thursday, but won’t wait any longer than Friday.

The option also means that Schaub will be with the Texans for the next three seasons where he will earn the $28 million remaining on his initial six-year $48 million contract.

Said Texans owner Bob McNair, “He’s really been one of the best quarterbacks in the league this year.”
