New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has decided to undergo surgery on his left knee.
Sanchez consulted with a number of doctors and got second and third opinions before deciding to go under the knife. Among the doctors who examined his knee was famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
The procedure should help strengthen a patella-stabilizing ligament according to the New York Daily News. The Jets’ orthopedist Ken Montgomery is believed to be the doctor preforming the surgery.
Sanchez will be sidelined for about two months, but should be ready in plenty of time for training camp.
The Jets quarterback initially injured his knee right before his senior season at USC and played his NFL rookie season in a brace.
“The big picture here is he’s going to be fine,” Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said on Monday. “His knees are going to be great and he’ll be ready to go well before training camp.”
