The Pittsburgh Steelers and nose tackle Casey Hampton came to terms on a new deal that will keep him in the Steel City for the next three seasons.
Hampton agreed to a three-year $21 million contract—$11 million of which is guaranteed— according to KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.
The team is expected to announce the deal later today.
The Steelers would likely have placed their franchise tag on Hampton if no deal could have been reached, which would have payed him $7 million next season. If he meets his contractual obligations he will earn that amount for each of the next three seasons.
Mike Florio of PFT points out that high end defensive lineman are currently averaging $12 million annually.
