The Pittsburgh Steelers kept their playoff hopes alive while the Miami Dolphins were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday.
Ben Roethlisberger and company held on for a 30-24 victory at Land Shark Stadium in beautiful, sunny Florida.
Roethlisberger was 18-for-27 passing, throwing for 220 yards and three touchdowns. To balance an otherwise strong performance, he also lost a fumble.
Pittsburgh’s ground game came to play as Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker combined for 185 yards rushing on 32 carries.
Mike Wallace continued to show he is the future of the Steelers receiving corps, catching two passes for 64 yards including a 54-yard touchdown bomb.
The Dolphins quarterbacks had a rough go at it Sunday as Chad Henne and Pat White were both knocked out of the game.
Henne exited the game at halftime with an eye injury while White was rocked by a collision with Steelers’ cornerback Ike Taylor in the third quarter.
Third string quarterback Tyler Thigpen came in and nearly led the team to a come from behind victory. He was 4-for-8 passing with 83 yards, one touchdown and two picks.
Davone Bess was the Dolphins’ offensive leader with 85 yards receiving on five catches and one touchdown.
In order for Pittsburgh to make the playoffs if the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets and Denver Broncos all lose or tie. (View Complete AFC Playoff Scenarios)
