Seahawks contacted Tony Dungy about being President

With all the Pete Carroll news out of Seattle now it seems they contacted Tony Dungy for the team president spot, this was reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

According to John Wooten, the chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, Seattle made the call to Dungy. Tony Dungy declined the offer after sleeping and praying on it overnight. Instead he wanted to continue with what he is doing right now.

Wooten said the Seahawks’ willingness to apparently hire Dungy was one reason why he was adamant with Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke that the team not name Carroll as team president and coach before he gave his blessing to Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to interview with the team.

Wooten is aware that Carroll will have control over the team’s 53-man roster, but that it was important to the Pollard Alliance that a president and GM search proceed with minorities being interviewed.

So Seattle is still searching for a GM to help with the team.
