The NFL truly saved the best for last. Of all the playoff games up to this point, Sunday’s thrilling New Orleans Saints win over the Minnesota Vikings in overtime in the NFC Championship game was the best.

Back and forth the teams went. Brett Favre slinging the rock with Drew Brees there to answer. Sure, the Vikings turned the ball over, but the Saints weren’t able to capitalize.

The two teams were tied and halftime and the two teams were tied at the end of regulation.

The Vikings might have had the opportunity to end the game with a Ryan Longwell kick, but Favre threw an interception with :12 left on the clock in what may have been the final pass of his career.

Two plays later the game headed into overtime where the Saints won the toss, went on a 10-play 39-yard scoring drive capped by a 40-yard field goal by Garrett Hartley and punched their ticket to Super Bowl XLIV.

“This is a dream come true,” Hartley said after the game. “It’s surreal.”

Favre was under pressure all day long. Although held without a sack, the black and gold had countless knock downs and hurries on the phenom, which led to two interceptions and a fumble.

If it was the final game of his career, Brett can hold his head high.

He was 28-of-46 passing for 310 yards and a touchdown to go with his two interceptions.

Star running back Adrian Peterson carried the ball 25 times for 122 yards and a whopping three touchdowns.

Bernard Berrian led the Vikings receivers with nine catches for 102 yards.

For the Saints, Brees was 17-of-31 passing for 197 yards and three touchdowns.

Pierre Thomas carried the ball 14 times for 61 yards and found the end zone twice (once through the air). He also picked up a critical first down on 4th and 1 in overtime that kept the Saints winning drive alive.

After blowing the roof off the Superdome last weekend against the Dallas Cowboys, Reggie Bush had a quiet day in the Saints backfield. He carried the ball seven times for eight yards to go with his two receptions for 33 yards, one of which went for a touchdown.

It is the first ever trip to the Super Bowl for the Saints where they will meet Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
