Ryan thinks Falcons still searching for offensive rhythm

Matt Ryan thinks the Falcons are close to clicking on offense

Playing into the third quarter of last week’s 16-6 preseason win against Miami, quarterback Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons got a glimpse of where he thought the offense was.

While Ryan said that he feels like the team is getting close to clicking on all cylinders, he knows it still has some work to do as a unit to get to where it needs to be.

Ryan didn’t shy away from being critical of himself, either. He said there are definitely some areas that he needs to improve in as well.

“I think the biggest thing is to just maintain good footwork within the pocket, especially when there’s pass rush around,” Ryan said. “Being good inside the pocket, that’s something that comes with being back in the flow of things. I thought Miami did a good job with the pass rush the other night. We stepped up and we started to get a little better.”

Ryan, now in his third season, has taken on even more of a vocal leadership role during camp and the preseason.

He’s just trying to push the offense to be prepared for the season opener.

“We’re working on different things at different points in training camp, and while we would have liked to have been a little more productive the other night, I still feel like we’re moving at a high level,” Ryan said.  ”We’re close. We need to continue to tighten things up and make sure we’re executing at the right time, and that starts next weekend.”

Atlanta will open its regular season against Pittsburgh on September 12.
