Rumor: Redskins and Peppers Deal “Essentially Done” UPDATED

Julius Peppers

Julius Peppers

The Washington Redskins are once again the front-runners to land free agent defensive end Julius Peppers.

A deal between Peppers and the Redskins is “essentially done” and barring any last minute and unexpected developments he will join the burgundy and gold shortly after midnight according to Mike Florio of PFT.

Adding more fuel to fire, KGOW radio in Houston reported that the Redskins were “charging hard” with their negotiations and that the deal should be done by tomorrow.

Whether it’s shortly before or after the free agency period officially begins, it looks like Daniel Snyder has once again gone big game fishing.

During a press conference Thursday night regarding the ten players released, Redskins GM Bruce Allen said that Snyder did not put a financial limit on how much the team could spend in free agency.

UPDATE: The Chicago Bears became the front-runners to land Peppers as the free agency period began at midnight. The team got Peppers on a plane to Chicago quickly, proving once again that things can change on a dime in the NFL (more).
