After being boisterous and full of emotion all season, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was understandably subdued after his team lost to the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

That’s a tough team,” Ryan said of the Colts. “There’s a lot of match-up issues that any team has going against them.”

Although they sputtered early in the game, the Colts offense cruised to a 30-17 victory to earn a berth in Super Bowl XLIV.

“If you can’t disrupt Peyton Manning’s rhythm, he’ll kill you,” Ryan added. “We didn’t disrupt him enough.

“We tried everything. We tried man, two-man, tried zone, you name it. You gotta give him credit. He’s a heck of a quarterback.”

Still, the Jets can hold their heads high. At one point in the season New York didn’t even look as though they would make the playoffs. Even Ryan himself thought that team was eliminated.

They made it all the way to the conference championship game with road wins over the Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers.

“Today wasn’t our day,” Ryan said. “They are the cream of the crop.”
