Revis’ Holdout Continues Amidst Conflicting Reports

Darrelle Revis

Darelle Revis' holdout has continued despite conflicting reports that a deal is on it's way with the team.

Multiple reports have surfaced this week about whether or not Darelle Revis and the Jets would finally announce a deal, but at this point the star cornerback is still a no-show at camp on Day 25 of his holdout.

According to ESPNNewYork.com‘s Rich Cimini, no deal looks imminent, with the exception that Revis decides on a whim to sign a short-term deal to get back on the field. Cimini added that if Revis were to sign, there is no chance it would be anywhere near the 10-year, $160 million contract he is reportedly looking for.

The latest rumor came when AOL’s Fanhouse reported that Revis met with the Jets on Tuesday night to iron out a deal that they would reveal later this week. New York Post sportswriter Bart Hubbuch disputed the story, saying via his Twitter, “All indications are that reports of a meeting tonight between Revis and the Jets are not true.”

Suspicions surrounding the dealings between Revis and the Jets began on Sunday when Dallas Morning News sportswriter Tim Cowlishaw said that a source that  “has never been wrong” told him the two sides have already agreed to terms and would announce them Wednesday. Additionally, the paper published an article Tuesday backing Cowlishaw’s story and claiming Revis had filmed an interview that he would air on Wednesday night’s episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks. ESPN’s Adam Schefter, however, immediately disputed Cowlishaw’s claims, saying a deal by this week would “surprise him”.

Signing Revis has been offseason priority #1 for the Jets, who are trying to lock up their “Core Four” players. The team, who already signed OT D’Brickishaw Ferguson in July, was able to secure C Nick Mangold earlier this week, making him the highest-paid center in the NFL with a 7-year, $55 million deal. The remaining un-signed members of the “Core Four” are Revis and LB David Harris, who said he won’t hold contract talks with the team until the NFL’s labor crisis clears up.

The Jets will host Washington at the Meadowlands on Friday.
