The Seattle Seahawks secretly interviewed current USC coach Pete Carroll earlier this week in Los Angeles.
Team representatives were supposedly in Los Angeles to interview a General Manager candidate, but were actually meeting with Carroll instead, according to Mike Florio of PFT.
Earlier reports surfaced that the Seahawks were interested in Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, but instead have gone after the bigger names after the minority candidate declined to interview for the position.
Florio further reported that the team’s fallback candidates include Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden and John Fox.
Seattle is offering the Trojan coach an “exorbitant” amount of money according to Jay Glazer.
It appears that USC believes that Carroll will depart the team and return to the pros as well.
ESPN is reporting that some of the school’s “power brokers” have already been in touch with Oregon State football coach Mike Riley.
UPDATE: The Seahawks and Carroll are reportedly close on a five-year $35 million deal and he is not returning USC’s phone calls. (more)
