Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is prepared to back up the truck to land Mike Shanahan as the next head coach of the team.
A report surfaced late Friday that the contract the Redskins have ready for the former Broncos coach to sign is in the neighborhood of $50 million.
Mike Florio of PFT speculates that the deal is probably for five years, earning Shanahan $10 million annually.
Should the deal go through, it would make him the highest paid coach in NFL history.
Snyder is like the George Steinbrenner of football—he is never afraid to open his checkbook.
Also on Friday, a report surfaced that Shanahan may be interested in taking over the Houston Texans if they decide to fire current coach Gary Kubiak at the end of the season.

Would he really wish Kubiak whom he coached with on the Broncos to be fired? When Mike Shanahan, who was previously the 49ers offensive coordinator, became Denver’s head coach he hired Gary Kubiak. In 11 seasons (1995-2005) as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Gary Kubiak helped lead Denver to two Super Bowl titles.
Yeah it makes sense for Mike to want to coach with the Texans offensive coordinator, his son, Kyle Shanahan but I just don’t see how he turns down this Redskins offer and let his pal Kubiak keep his job.
