The Washington Redskins will take Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen with the fourth pick overall in the upcoming NFL Draft, bypassing Sam Bradford according to the latest mock draft by Mel Kiper.
Clausen, who underwent toe surgery recently, should see his stock rise once fully healed after the combine according to the ESPN analyst.
Perhaps his pro-style offense experience with Charlie Weis in South Bend played a factor in the bump up the mock board.
Bradford, meanwhile, has fallen to the No. 6 spot of the Seattle Seahawks in Kiper’s draft.
The St. Louis Rams are still expected to take DT Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska with the first pick.
Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy is projected to the Lions with the second pick.
With the third pick in the draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take S Eric Berry from Tennessee.
Clausen is fourth and going to the Redskins, while OT Anthony Davis from Rutgers rounds out the top 5 and should land with the Kansas City Chiefs according to Kiper.
Redskins don’t really need a first round QB…their QB had a good year considering the way the line aged and the younger linemen disproved themselves. Campbell looked good last year when you consider he was without his top receiver nor even starting caliber players at RB, LT, RG, and RT. Collins is as veteran as it gets. There is still Brennan to consider as a prospect if the team still has doubts about Campbell. I think it has to be an OT, unless they want to draft some young QB to be a tackle dummy behind a line that if the season started now would likely be starting Mike Williams, Montgomery, Edwin Williams, and Heyer.
It will be very difficult for Clausen’s stock to rise after the combine, because he won’t be participating in any drills because of his recent toe surgery. I think the Redskins will take Sam Bradford.
