Pete Carroll officially submitted his resignation to USC Sunday, giving him the green light to become the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
The resignation was first reported by Scott Wolf of the L.A. Daily News.
Carroll and the Seahawks brass were scheduled to meet Sunday or Monday to finalize the terms of his new deal.
It had been previously speculated that the Seahawks and Carroll came to terms on a deal that would make him the director of football operations in addition to his duties on the sideline.
The deal was rumored to be worth $32.5 million – $35 million over five seasons.
As for a replacement at USC, former Carroll understudy and current head coach of the Washington Huskies Steve Sakisian told the school that he would not be interested in the position.
The wake left behind by Carroll’s resignation could be a big one at USC.
Mike Garrett, the school’s athletic director, is rumored to be on his way out according to John Taylor of College Football Talk.
