Report: Oakland Raiders to Keep Tom Cable as Head Coach

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis decided to retain Tom Cable as head coach for the 2010 season.

The decision, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, ends weeks of speculation that Cable would be shown the door. It also means that Lane Kiffin won’t be adding him to the staff at USC.

The Oakland Raiders are not confirming the move just yet, but sources close to the situation report that Davis made the decision after meeting with Cable again this week.

Cable had the support of the Raider locker room, which factored into the Davis’ decision. The uncertainty of a lockout in 2011 also played a part in retaining the coach.

The question now becomes whether Cable will continue with his play calling duties next season.
