The New York Jets and running back Thomas Jones are about to part ways.
According to Mike Florio of PFT, Jones will not restructure his contract and the Jets will release him this week prior to having to pay a $2.8 million roster bonus.
He could be one of the most sought after running backs this offseason.
Darren Sproles should be the highest paid free agent back, but Jones’ 2,700 yards over the past two seasons should earn him a healthy payday as well.
In other Jets news, the team is expected to give restricted free agent Leon Washington a second-round tender next week which is worth approximately $1.8 million.
