Wade Phillips
A once bleak future for Wade Phillips with the Dallas Cowboys is now looking rather bright.
Jerry Jones now appears ready to pick up the 2010 option on Phillips’ contract and possibly extend it beyond.
A report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter states that the Cowboys coach could have a two-year contract extension coming his way.
His fortunes turned around with strong play late in December and the team getting getting off the playoff schneid last weekend by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles.
Still, it’d be hard to believe that a Cowboys loss Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings wouldn’t change Jones’ mind.
Time will tell.
Wade and his staff had their oppurtunity and knew exactly what Jerry was looking for. Winning a wild card playoff was not enough. After 3 years at the helm, getting to the NFC Championship game was the expected result. He was outcoached, outplayed and simply didn’t have the team prepared after the Philly win. Certainly with this talent and experience, Dallas could have and should have won this game or at least shown better effort in all phases to have Wade remain. Until we get a proven coach that knows how to win at the championship level…Dallas will always be an also ran. I know that Jerry Jones understands and wants to get to that ultimate goal and will make the hard decisions to get there even if Wade is a “personable” guy. Jimbo
