The Seattle Seahawks are close to signing USC coach Pete Carroll to a five-year $35 million contract to become their new head coach and team president.

Carroll has not returned phone calls from USC sports information director Tim Tessalone according to the Los Angeles Times.

“I’ve put a message out to him, but haven’t heard back yet,” Tessalone said. “At this point, we have nothing to report. Perhaps check with the Seahawks.”

Perhaps he’s too busy putting the finishing touches on his new NFL contract.

The $7 million annual salary is equal to that of newly signed Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

Earlier on Friday the Seahawks dismissed Jim Mora who went 5-11 in his first and only season as the team’s head coach.

Team executives are still scheduled to meet with Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Saturday about the position.
