Report: Arizona Cardinals May Cut Matt Leinart

Matt Leinart could be on his way out of Arizona

Matt Leinart may not need to worry about being cut in Arizona. Instead, he would be better to concern himself about being cut outright.

The No. 10 overall pick in the 2006 draft is due a base salary of $2.485 million from the Cardinals this season, which likely isn’t the big concern. In 2011 his salary jumps to $7.36 million (via PFT) — a huge amount to pay for a backup.

Clark Judge of CBS Sports reports that Leinart’s teammates have no confidence in him and that they cannot win while he is under center.

All of this comes despite a relatively strong showing in last weekend’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears where he was 9-of-10 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Still, from the Cardinals perspective, enough is enough it would seem.

Perhaps fortuitous, Ken Whisenhunt listed Derek Anderson as the team’s starting quarterback in the latest depth chart.
