Lorenzo Alexander

Lorenzo Alexander

The Washington Redskins re-signed Lorenzo Alexander in the early morning hours of the first day of the NFL free agency period.

As the team made significant roster cuts on Thursday, which included former key members of their defense, they also applied a low-end tender on Alexander.

Now, per Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com, the two parties have agreed to a three-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 26-year-old played in all 16 games for the Redskins in 2009, recording two sacks and 23 tackles.

He is expected to convert to outside linebacker with the switch to the 3-4 defense.

In other Redskins news, free agent left tackle Chad Clifton will be paying the team a visit on Friday. The team hopes to lock him up to bolster the offensive line which struggled mightily last season.
