Redskins QB John Beck Signs Extension

John Beck

Redskins QB John Beck signed a new contract today

The Washington Redskins signed quarterback John Beck to a contract extension today. With a deal already in place for Beck, this extension – ending up as a three-year deal – brings his total contract up to $3.35 million according to NFL.com and puts him on the roster through 2012.

The signing would indicate that the team has decided to keep three quarterbacks on the roster this season.  Apparently Beck won’t be getting the ax tomorrow when the 53-man roster must be finalized.  Currently, Donovan McNabb is the starting signal caller with Rex Grossman backing him up.  Richard Bartel has been on the team since November of 2009 and Beck was brought in from the Baltimore Ravens in a trade for cornerback Doug Dutch on August 2nd. Fan favorite Colt Brennan was let go that same day.  An educated guess would result in the thinking that Beck will be the third string quarterback for Washington.

Beck, 6’2, 215 lbs., was acquired originally by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft from Brigham Young University.
