Redskins’ Portis Doesn’t Think Campbell is Good Leader

The ink isn’t even dry on Mike Shanahan’s new contract and there is another problem with the Washington Redskins that he will need to fix.

Running back Clinton Portis questioned quarterback Jason Campbell’s ability to lead the team during an appearance on DC area radio station ESPN980.

When asked why he wasn’t the captain of the Redskins while Campbell was, Portis said: “I wonder the same thing. It’s no disrespect to Jason, but everybody in that locker room will tell you — you will never see Jason mad, you will never see Jason’s tempo change.”

Portis’ remarks, as reported by NFL.com, weren’t all bad, however.

“(Jason’s) going to give you everything (he’s) got,” said Portis said.

Then he started to rant again.

“(Y)ou can’t place so much on somebody who’s not ready for that situation. I think Jason has enough trouble in getting the plays in and worrying about this, compared to controlling the huddle.”

Shanahan to the rescue.
