Redskins KICKOFF Week: Dallas Cowboys Add Their Own Proclamations

Redskins center Casey Rabach

The Washington Redskins “2010 KICKOFF WEEK” began today with proclamations from three metropolitan area executives. These proclamations were enthusiastic and spirit-filled.  They proclaimed things such as Sept. 7-12 is Redskins Kickoff Week in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia; they proclaimed the Redskins were in the second place position in the most valuable NFL franchise race; and they exhorted the great work that the Redskins Charitable Foundation does in the Washington, D.C. area.

However, there are other proclamations made today that require some attention.

The Dallas Cowboys are coming to town for a huge game on Sunday night that will be on national T.V. Of course, that game will be as big for the Cowboys and their fans as it is for the Redskins and their fans.

OK.  Here’s the thing… a  Dallas local media person decided to proclaim that “Cowboys face the AARP All-Stars on Sunday.”

It seems that Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News has decided to point out that the Washington Redskins have some “mature” players on the team and, in a post today he made a parallel between our Redskins and the AARP.  ’AARP’ stand for “Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons.” He writes that there are 14 players more than 30 years old on the Redskins 53-man roster.

Well, this headline should just make any Redskin fan mad.

While the facts may be true, I’m thinking that the Dallas Cowboy fan base is a little bit nervous about the game this weekend.  Their team did not look so hot during the preseason.  And yea, those games don’t mean anything but it is still all that the fans have to go on so far. The Dallas Cowboys aren’t all spring chickens themselves. Center Andre Gurode, guards Montrael Holland, Kyle Kosier and Leonard Davis; and tackle Marc Colombo are all 30+ years old.  And look… those are all offensive linemen.

The Redskins have three out of five offensive linemen that are over thirty.  Jammal Brown and Trent Williams are both under thirty though – Williams by a long shot by the way – and they will be protecting quarterback Donovan McNabb.  Of the three that are over 30, only one – Casey Rabch – is much over 30 (well, he’s only 33) and he is as healthy as a horse. Of course, Fraley did not mention these Redskin offensive linemen age facts in his ‘proclamation’.   And by the way, the Dallas quarterbacks were sacked 13 times this preseason – the Redskins’ were sacked less, trust me.

I hope someone in the Washington Redskins locker room gets hold of this post soon.  Not that they need much to get them motivated to play the Dallas Cowboys.

But every little bit helps.
