Graham Gano is looking strong early in training camp.
If Tuesday’s practice is a sign of things to come, the Washington Redskins kicking game will be strong this season behind the leg of Graham Gano.
The 23-year-old winner of the 2008 Lou Groza Award essentially put on a clinic in accuracy for the fans in attendance.
Gano, by his own account, was 10 for 11 in field goal attempts, including tries from 50- and 51-yards.
One of his kicks actually got stuck in the netting hooked up to the field goal post, which is no easy feat.
“It’s definitely good to hit the net, because that means it went in,” he said somewhat laughingly when asked whether he thought having the ball stuck up there was a good omen for the season. Obviously he’s not superstitious.
While the Redskins kicking job has seemingly been a revolving door for the better part of the last decade, Gano isn’t letting the pressure (and potentially short leash) get to him.
“I believe I’ll be here all 16 games,” he said. “If I didn’t believe that I shouldn’t be on the team… Right now it’s training camp and I’m just focusing on improving my game and getting smooth.”
