The “Bloodbath at Redskins Parks” is finally over. At final tally the Washington Redskins released ten veteran players on Thursday as they officially begin their rebuilding process following a dismal 4-12 season under Jim Zorn.
The Redskins receiving pink slips on Thursday were Ladell Betts (RB), Rock Cartwright (RB), Marcus Mason (RB), Eddie Williams (FB), Todd Collins (QB), Cornelius Griffin (DT), Antwaan Randle El (WR), J.D. Skolnitsky (DE), Fred Smoot (CB) and Randy Thomas (G).
Said Redskins GM Bruce Allen of the roster moves, “Obviously it’s a day of change for the Redskins.”
Meanwhile, the team placed tenders on all ten of their restricted free agents in advance of the free agency kickoff at midnight.
Quarterback Jason Campbell and cornerback Carlos Rogers received first-round tenders.
Safety Reed Doughty, defensive tackle Kedric Golston, tackle Stephon Heyer, linebacker Rocky McIntosh and linebacker / defensive end Chris Wilson each received second-round tenders.
Rounding out the lister were defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery who received a fifth-round tender, offensive lineman Will Montgomery who received a seventh-round tender and defensive lineman Lorenzo Alexander who received the lowest tender possible—the undrafted-right of first refusal tender.
